What is Emerald sending

Or an explained Trafficdump, first I started with Emerald 1.23.5.950 on my mac and did a TCP dump, why beaces that was the last version I had running n tat machine, and it whas with me at work. The Dump was made using Wireshark over a bluetooth connections to the internet during lunch break.

I will try to make a view of most of the traffic, as just a short SL session have about 4500 packets, This was a login an almost ressing one self over a slow line. I can't explain all packets.

This tell the computer where modularsystems.sl are, it at the address 213.133.100.231. Next a connections to modularsystem.sl is made and the following data sent and recived:

Feed2js.org is used to make the LL and the Modular system blogs into one list at the login page.

The client downloads, /ga.js from www.google-analytics.com,even that javascript get's downloaded over a gziped connection. The java scripts will get a small file form google, that is used for the tracking in google analytics.


Once all the normal traffic to lindenlabs have been done, and you allow the viewer to update the clients tag data base the file "GET /app/client_tags/client_list.xml HTTP/1.1" will be downloaded form the server.

Emerald 1.23.5.1101 for linux

I have the Emerald 1101 build for Linux, it's build optimiced for Ubuntu 9.04 and newer, I have tested on 9.04 and 9.10. On 9.10 it works badly at least for me with pulseaudio, removing pulseaudio and it works well. (sudo apt-get remove pulseaudio;sudo apt-get install esound).

Installation is like:

This will get it running, but voice is missing and the graphis uses the much slower OpenJPEG library. These have to be copied form the official viewer, or is you have the old emerals voice pack.

Boy Lane, made some changes in the CoolViewer, and so was Rainbow Viewer born. As boy only make windows code, and I would guess the interest for this version is about 0, form Henri. I decided to take it to linux. Now ready to be downloaded form google.

I made some small changes to make the install easy. For the first time, well the first time in know of, SecondLife third party viewer have voice, and kdu support without breaking the licence agreements and NO extra install steps.

Install by:

If you like to save the download on a slow line and have an other version of SecondLife installed copy the following files in to the RainbowViewer-i686-1.22.11.0 directory.

Optimized build.

The last build of the KirstenViewer was not as fast as expected, missed to make a release build with optimization. I usually build with Henri's scripts making this for me. But as this code came in an other form that was not possible an I goofed. I had the feeling it was not as quick as I expected but never got the time to make clean test. yesterday I did, the numbers was so bad I had to do something. Lime add optimization flags. This runs well on my AMD-64, not tested on any intel props, it might not work as well there. New build here, code diff against 1.21.6 here. Full code is here and follow the viewer at her blog.

The irritating IM tab bling bug still havn't been fixed. I was a hot issue 11 of feburary, on RC0, today we had two code releases after that and they still don't have a working forx for it. You can make it party work in a debug setting, but with that all tabs blink out of order making it annoying to look at.

Blinking IM tags

There will soon, really soon be a new EC-ea realeas with a patch tyo make the IM tab's flashing again appear in a sensible manner. I did have time to test the final version of the patch before leaving for work. But hopefully it will work great. I hope this will make a good patch to close VWR-4575.

The code containd three small changes that make SL so much easier.

• Make all tabs flash at the same time. This was teh behaivour before 1.19 and the "ButtonFlashCount" could not be used as work around for this.


• Make value less that 1 on "ButtonFlashCount" have the buttons flash for ever, not that the offical viewer took values like -1 meaing 0 flashes.


• "ButtonFlashCount" now have default value of -1 making flashed go on forever

There are some irritating bug's left to fix, VWR-4575 IM tabs no longer blink when new IM text is received. A so called hot, issue at LL since 1.19.0.RC1. But LL have been working getting this back and we'll probably get it in 6 months, that's about the same time if took to get the friends list out of the communication window.

Balp Build: WL-c

Windlight is now out in version 77495, and I added the patches from the previews version and it runs. So here you go.

I assume the problem with gtk and file dialog on suse still exist, this is made on ubuntu 7.10 and tested in that environment. I think the wrapper now is executable (e.g. chmod +x) isn't needed, I'm not sure i understand the moon problem correct yet, and to be honest i have no time to look into what the windlight code actually does.

Ok, back from vacation and new patches from Nicholaz, this time for the windlight code. My build is made against the 18.6.76116 versions of the code, (last source code, new viewer from LL). I have tested with the 18.6.76453 viewer as well. The 18.6.76116 contain an error in a German language file that might have you log into a false SL site. (The kind of stuff the new login behaviour is there to "save" us all from...)

However downloads are on acc, binaries and patches. Inteneded for 18.6.76116 but works with 18.6.76453 as well. (LL seams to have removed the 76116 version from all but source code...)

To install with 18.7.76453 do as follows.

The last file added the 18.6.76116 to the top of the release notes to tell the nicholaz version you have 76116 installed.

A build for Second Life 18.5.3 with the addition of Nicholaz patches. It needs a install of SL 18.3.5 Linux version to run.
